Deck Views

It is definitely feeling like summer in the South! I thought there would be no better way to kick off my favorite season than to talk about our deck and the enjoyment we receive by spending time on it. These elevated views are one of the reasons we chose to build here!

When we built the house 5 years ago, my husband, Jamie, insisted on a deck that ran the length of the house, and I’m so glad he did! Because our house is built on a slope, our deck is elevated around 10 feet from the ground. The length is around 60 feet. Needless to say, we have a large area to enjoy the peace and beauty of our land.

I have created 3 areas on the deck, the entrance, under the cover, and the sitting area.

I’ve had several plants and planters at the entrance to the deck, which can be reached by stairs. My goal is that this space will make visitors feel welcome as well as lead them to the front door of the home.

The roofline extends out at the center of the deck, offering a shade from the Arkansas heat. We made sure to install a ceiling fan here so there would always be a breeze. Jamie and I tend to sit here on summer mornings to watch the sun come up over the trees bordering our property. This is also the place to be during the heat of the day (well, besides inside where the air conditioner is running).

Last, we have the spot where we hang out the most-the sitting area. Outdoor living is what it’s all about when you have views like these! This is where we sit in the evenings when the sun is going down and the air is cooling somewhat. I have these new cushion covers from Amazon that are AMAZING because they tie onto the couch. No more cushions that fall over! If your outdoor couch is similar to this, and your cushions won’t stay in place, I highly recommend these cushions. Here’s the link:

Opposite the couch, which we bought from Walmart in 2020, are two lounge chairs, which were a surprise gift from Walmart. I ordered a Christmas tree online Christmas before last, and these two chairs arrived in its place! Walmart graciously allowed me to keep the chairs and then sent the Christmas tree. The fire pit was a late season purchase at Home Depot in Starkville, Mississippi when we were there to watch our daughter, whose college softball team was playing at Mississippi State.

My hope is that you enjoyed taking a look at our views. They are a large part of Living Simply in the Cove!
