As a Christian, I know that Bible study is an integral part of my walk with God, yet I often find myself reading the Bible on a surface level; I read without any study. As I was scrolling through Instagram one day, I came across the James Method of Bible study. After looking up what that was, it seemed like a way for me to dig deeper as I read. After looking at some options on Amazon, I decided on A Woman’s Guide to Verse Mapping, by Ashley Farrington.
The book comes with recommended verses grouped by categories such as grace, love, forgiveness, and several others.
There are 8 tasks with each verse with a space provided to record them: a word-for-word translation; a thought-for-thought translation; keywords (I also record the English and Hebrew definitions of each word); historical context; cross references; summary; reflect and apply; and prayer.
I’ve really enjoyed working with one verse at a time, and more than anything, I’ve noticed there are so many parallel verses! There really are common themes throughout the Bible, in both the Old and New Testaments.
